At the March 27th, 2014 meeting of the
Staten Island Vicariate, the subject of
substance abuse on Staten Island was the
principle topic.  Congressman Michael
Grimm, Adrienne Abbate (Project Director,
Tackling Youth Substance Abuse) and Luke
Nosta (Director, Camelot) made
presentations on the serious abuse problem
on Staten Island.

Please join us at our Fellowship Gathering on Sunday, September 7th after each of the
Sunday Masses

Stop in Dongan Hall, under the Church, for some coffee, tea, juices, cakes and other goodies.
More importantly, share some conversation with your fellow parishioners.

September 7th is Grandparents’ Day.
Don’t forget to make that visit, place that call or say that pray for your Grandparents today.
Keep them in your heart.

On Tuesday, September 9th at 7:00pm in the Dongan Hall Meeting Room,
your Faith Formation Committee will be holding its monthly meeting.

Be part of making St. Margaret Mary’s a welcoming parish and help shepherd those
who have strayed from the Church back to the Lord.  All are welcomed to help plan
the coming year’s Calendar of Events.

It is through your participation that we continue to the legacy of St. Margaret Mary’s
warm and welcoming parish.  Please come and see what we are all about.  You don’t
need to make any commitments.

After what felt like a very fast summer, the Monday 7:00pm Scripture Study sessions
will be resuming on
Monday, September 15th.   The sessions are held in the
Dongan Hall Meeting Room.

These sessions read the scriptures for the coming week and a reflection of each reading.
There is then a round table discussion as to how the readings impact the individual.
If you are shy or don’t wish to share your experiences, that’s fine.  No one is required
to do anything other than listen to and reflect on the readings.

Over the years we have had many people attend these
sessions and all walk away with a better feeling of
themselves and others. As one participant has mentioned “this is food for our mind and soul.”

Please join us on Mondays at 7:00pm.  We are not Biblical Scholars, we are a group of
individuals who obtain a great deal out of the teachings from the Bible. The sessions are very
informal and we even provide coffee and treats.

Registration for 2014 - 2015 is now open.

We welcome public school students beginning in Grade 1.
Classes for Levels 1-4 will take place Sunday Mornings and
Levels 5-8 will take place Wednesday afternoons 4:00pm - 5:30pm.
Registration renewal is required annually.

When registering, please bring your child’s:
-  Baptismal Certificate (unless Baptized here) and
-  copies of any sacraments received, and
-  $30 deposit to cover the cost of the book.
Please see Mrs. Barbara Regan at the Rectory or call (718) 351-2119.

In Parsih:           1 Child = $100      2 Children = $150        3/more Children = $200
Out of Parish:    1 Child = $125      2 Children = $175        3/more Children = $225

Religious Education here at St. Margaret Mary’s is more than just a Sacramental
preparation program.  We welcome the children as they enter the 1st Grade and guide
them through the 8th Grade.  The 1st Graders learn about God’s love for them.  In the
second year we prepare them for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  In the 3rd year they
receive their 1st Eucharist.  They continue learning about God’s love and how they can
follow Jesus’ footsteps.  We keep building upon what they learn each year until they are
prepared to enter fully into the Church by receiving Confirmation in the 8th year of their
studies, at which time we send them out to make disciples of others.

Cardinal's Stewardship Appeal Campaign
Congratulations St. Margaret Mary's Parishioners!!!!
Our parish has exceeded its goal of $11,000!
What an outstanding accomplishment.

As of June 27th, we have received 63 pledges, totaling $12,292.

What makes this so significant is that last year we received 61 pledges,
totaling $11,637 surpassing our goal of $10,500.  Of that $11,637 a
very generous contribution was made by the Korean Catholic
Apostolate of Staten Island.  This year, you the parishioners of
St. Margaret Mary stepped forwarded and showed your generosity in
exceeding last year without any assistance.

Our St. Margaret Mary’s family has much to be proud of in supporting
this vital archdiocese campaign that helps so many, including us during
our Hurricane Sandy recovery.

Its not too late to make a pledge if you haven’t made one as yet.
Envelopes are in the rear of the Church.

Thank you very much for your continuing generosity and God bless you!
