YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED
This Saturday, March 28th at 11:00am in our Church, our Level 8 students will be
receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.  All of us in St. Margaret Mary’s parish are
so very proud of these young people.  We are also blessed to have Bishop John O’Hara
preside at the Confirmation.

ALL PARISHIONERS ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND
THIS BLESSED EVENT.

As you know, we are presenting our case to keep our parish from merging under the
“Making All Things New” Program.  What an outstanding opportunity we have as a
St. Margaret Mary’s family to show our love and support to our young people and to
exhibit to Bishop O’Hara that the parish of St. Margaret Mary is a vibrant and spiritually
active community.

PLEASE, TAKE AN HOUR OUT OF YOUR SATURDAY TO SHOW YOUR
SUPPORT OF OUR PARISH TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE AND BISHOP O’HARA.

THIS IS NOT AN OPPORTUNITY TO RALLY AGAINST THE ARCHDIOCESE.
IT’S AN OPPORTUNITY TO DEMONSTRATE OUR LOVE FOR GOD AND
OUR CHILDREN.

LENT
Lent started on Ash Wednesday February 18th and ends on Holy Saturday,
April 4th the day before Easter Sunday.  Lent is our time of preparation for
Easter.  It is a special time to renew our Baptism and to celebrate the
Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist.  Lent is a time to grow in faith.
We think and pray about the life we have because Jesus died and rose for us.
While Lent is a 40 day period of fasting and prayer, there are 46 days from
Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday.  The 6 Sundays in Lent are excluded.
Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence.

Lenten Fasting and Abstinence
Reminder: During the Season of Lent, the Church urges all the faithful to reflect a spirit of
penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence.

“Fasting” requires that only one full meal be taken per day.  Two other smaller meals may be
taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not
equal a full meal in quantity.  Fasting obliges all those who have reached the age of 18 and
continues to oblige until age 59.  Those not specifically obliged to fast are encouraged to join
in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able.

“Abstinence” prohibits individuals from eating meat on a particular day.  Abstinence obliges all
those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to oblige throughout their entire life.  Those
not specifically obliged from eating meat are encouraged to join in this discipline to the extent
that they are able.

Wednesday, February 18th; Ash Wednesday  …  Fasting and Abstinence
Friday, February 20th ………………………….. Abstinence
Friday, February 27th ………………………….. Abstinence
Friday, March 6th …………………………….... Abstinence
Friday, March 13th …………………….………. Abstinence
Friday, March 20th …………………………….. Abstinence
Friday, March 27th …………………………….. Abstinence
Friday, April 3rd; Good Friday ………….….….. Fasting and Abstinence

Stations of the Cross
Follow the footsteps of Jesus during His passion and death on the cross.  Starting Friday,
February 20th the Stations of the Cross and Benediction will be held every Friday
during Lent at 7:30pm.
If you have never attended Stations of The Cross or Benediction,
Stations lasts about 30 minutes and Benediction about 15 minutes.
It is a wonderful way to prepare for the season of Easter.

SCRIPTURE STUDY
Please join us at a Scripture Study session.  They are held on:
-  Mondays at 7:00pm in the Dongan Hall Meeting Room, and
-  Tuesday immediately after he 9:00am Mass in the Rectory

These sessions read the scriptures for the coming week and a reflection of each reading.
There is then a round table discussion as to how the readings impact the individual.
If you are shy or don’t wish to share your experiences, that’s fine.  No one is required
to do anything other than listen to and reflect on the readings.

Over the years we have had many people attend these sessions and all walk away with a
better feeling of themselves and others. As one participant has mentioned “this is food
for our mind and soul.”

We are not Biblical Scholars, we are a group of individuals who obtain a great deal
out of the teachings from the Bible. The sessions are very informal and we even provide
coffee and treats.
