Holy Days of Obligation
The Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord
(Christmas Day, December 25th) and the Solemnity
of the Immaculate Conception (December 8th) are
always Holy Days of Obligation in the United States,
regardless of the day they fall on.
For other movable Holy Days, Catholics in the
United States are not obligated to attend Mass if that
Holy Day falls on a Saturday or Monday.

Fellowship Gathering, Dongan Hall Blessing and
May Flower Offering; May 12th
Our Faith Formation Committee under the leadership of Fr. Diaz will be instituting a monthly
Fellowship Gathering after the Sunday Masses.  The intention of the Gatherings is to encourage
and promote parishioner interaction and socialization.  So many of us have created such strong
bonds as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  We are hoping to spread this feeling of good will and
brotherhood.  There are so many stories and blessings to share.

The Gatherings will be held in our newly renovated Dongan Hall (under the Church).  Coffee, tea,
cookies and cake will be available, free of charge.  We thank Jim Regan and the
St. Vincent DePaul Society for sponsoring these Gatherings.

The first Gathering will be held on
Sunday, May 12th after the 8:00, 10:00 and 12:00 Masses.
May 12th happens to be Mother's Day.  What a wonderful way to start Mother's Day then with
your friends and your St. Margaret Mary's family.

Additionally, on May 12th at the 10:00 Mass the children of the parish
will be honoring Mary with a Crowning of flowers procession and offering.

After the May 12th 10:00 Mass, there will be a special blessing of the
renovated Dongan Hall (basement of the Church).

"
I would like to all our parishioners and churchgoers to participate in the
blessing ceremony following the 10:00am Sunday Mass on May 12th.
It is my joy to inform everyone that the renovation work of our church
basement has been completed and ready to be used by our CCD children.
The classrooms look spic and span; so, too, the hallway.  Actually, the
long hallway will serve as the venue for the Fellowship Gathering that will follow
immediately after the 8:00am, 10:00am and 12:00 noon Mass this Sunday.  Please come
downstairs and see for yourself newly-renovated basement.  You can enjoy a cup of coffee
as you socialize with fellow parishioners.  It is my desire and my ardent hope that this
Fellowship Gathering would become a regular part of our “Sunday at St. Margaret Mary’s.
Perhaps, you may want to volunteer for one of these Fellowship Gatherings in the near
future?  Just ask Jerry LePre (JerryLePre@stmmsi.org) or one of the committee
members. I’d love to see our people come together.
Bring a friend some time to the gathering!
"  Father Diaz

Spread the word.  Let's all join together as one big St. Margaret Mary's family!

Religious Education and First Holy Communion; May 11th
Congratulations to our children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation at the ceremony
officiated by Bishop Josu Iriondo on April 13th.  May they always remember the special love God
the Father and of Jesus for them who sent the Holy Spirit to guide them to Christian maturity!

"
Our love and prayers to our CCD children who will be receiving their First Communion on
Saturday, May 11th.  I know how eager they are to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first
time.  They have prepared themselves well for this big day with a whole year of catechism
under the guidance of their ever zealous catechism teachers.  They made their First Penance
last March 9th.  I want to greet their parents and family on May 11th and I ask that they
continue to inspire and encourage their children in the faith even as they themselves continue
to persevere in the faith.

2013 Cardinal's Appeal
To date we have received 40 pledges for a total of $7,705 against our goal of $10,500.
We understand the emotional and financial hardships everyone has endured as a result of
Hurricane Sandy.  It would be greatly appreciated, if you are in a position to do so,
to pledge to the Cardinal's Appeal.  No amount is to small.

It was through last year's contributions to the Cardinal's Appeal that more than 250
St. Margaret Mary's families received Hurricane Sandy assistance.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
If you or someone you know has been searching for the path to join or rejoin the Church and make
the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and/or Confirmation, the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults (RCIA) program is available at St. Margaret Mary's.  It is a wonderful program which
provides the candidates with a comprehensive religious foundation and readies them for the
blessed sacraments.

For more information please contact the rectory (718-351-2612).  Mention the RCIA program and
ask to have Barbara Regan or Jerry LePre contact you.  Or you may
Contact Us through this web site.
Additionally, you can stop by on Monday evenings at 7:00pm in Dongan Hall (located in the rear
meeting room under the Church).

Altar Society
The Altar Society is looking for volunteers to help keep the Sanctuary neat and clean.   We meet after
the 9:00am Mass on Saturday (time flexible).  There are no dues and our prayer is “All for Thee Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus”.  Many of you noted that you were willing to volunteer in last year's Parish
Survey.  Now's the time we need your help.  Please contact the rectory and mention that you would
like to volunteer for the Altar Society -or - use
Contact Us.

Congratulations to Ryan Lee!
Ryan Lee was awarded a scholarship by St. John University where Ryan will enroll in the coming
school year.  Many of us will not forget the meditative guitar music that Ryan provided at our
Sunday Masses.  His volunteer work as a CCD catechist speaks a lot about the wonderful
apostolic zeal of this young man.
We wish Ryan Godspeed, and our prayers for his continued success!

Parish Trustees Reappointed
Staci Memmesheimer and Frank Sajdak have been reappointed
as trustees of St.Margaret Mary’s Parish.
Staci will serve for two more years.
Frank will serve for one more year.

Weekly Rosary - Sundays at 11:30am
Please join us in the Church on Sundays at 11:30am to pray The Rosary.

Scripture Study - Mondays after the 9:00am Mass and 7:00pm
Our Scripture Study Group is always open for new members.  We read the coming Sunday's
readings from the missallette and then read a small commentary on the readings.  After the readings,
a volunteery round-table discussion is held.

Sharing your experiences and hearing the experiences of others is greatly rewarding. This Study
program is very informally and all are welcomed.

We meet on Mondays after the 9:00am Mass in the Rectory. It is also available on Monday
evenings at 7:00pm in Dongan Hall (located in the rear meeting room under the Church).

Lectio Divina (Divine Reading) - Tuesdays 7:00pm
A Lectio Divina Group has been formed at St. Margaret Mary.  The Lectio Divina describes a way
of reading the Scriptures whereby we gradually let go of our agenda and open ourselves to what
God wants to say to us.  Please join us on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm in the Rectory.
For additional information concerning the Lectio Divina at St. Margaret Mary click here.

Legion of Mary
Members of the parish have established a Legion of Mary praesidium. The Legion sees as its priority
the spiritual and social welfare of each individual. The members participate in the life of the parish
through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration
in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish.

Our Website
October 7th, 2012 - April 14th, 2013
As a result of Hurricane Sandy, we were unable to keep
the St. Margaret Mary's web site up-to-date and current
on any consistent basis.  We are back now and will make
every effort to keep the site and the E-Bulletins current.

As time permits, we will be updating the site with prior
Words From Father Diaz, Weekly Bulletins,
and
Photo Events.

We recognize that a current website and timely
E-Bulletins would have helped during the last 6 months
but we, like you, were without home, electric, and time
to keep the site going.  We are sorry if we caused you
any inconvenience.

Please let your family, friends, neighbors and other
parishioners know we're back.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
50/50 Drawing
We currently have $90 in

You can participate for
only $1.00.
Please take a ticket or two
as you leave Mass.
Let’s make this a
