Welcome to our Religious Education Students and Catechists.
As Father Erno Diaz, our former Administartor, so accurately stated:
"With great joy, I welcome our children enrolled in the Religious Education program.
I want to tell them that Jesus Himself is calling them to learn more about Him and His
great love for them.  He said, “Let the children come to me.”  I impart my blessing
upon our Religious Education children - upon each and everyone of them.  May they
stay close to God.  I want to thank their parents for their interest in and concern for
the Christian upbringing of their children.  On the day of their child’s baptism, they
were told that “they are the first teachers of their child in the ways of faith.”  I ask
the parents to nurture at home whatever Christian education their children learn in
the Religious Education.

I also ask them to come with their children to Sunday Mass and join the faith-community
of St. Margaret Mary’s in worship.  Coming to Sunday worship is one of the best ways
of affirming and sustaining the Christian formation of the children.  Remember the wise
saying:  “The Family that prays together, stays together.”

A word about our Catechists whose generosity of volunteer service is most admirable.
They should be called the “evangelizers of the young” by their zeal and devotion to teach
the children the gospel of Jesus and the doctrines of His Church.  Under Mrs. Barbara Regan
as  Coordinator, our Religious Education program has our full support and that of the whole
parish.  God bless!"

2015-2016 Registration
As was mentioned on our Home Page:

Our Religious Education program is currently taking St. Margaret Mary and St. Christopher
Registrations and re-Registrations for the 2015-2016 semester.  Classes will be held at
St. Margaret Mary’s Dongan Hall classrooms (under the Church).  By joining forces there are more
Catechists allowing for a Wednesday Class option or a Sunday Class option.

We accept children who have already been baptized from Grade 1 to Grade 8.

1st Penance is made in level 2, 1st Communion in level 3 and Confirmation in level 8.
Our program is a continuing education program which builds on each previous year’s

For those who have reached the age of 7 and have not been baptized or have reached
Grade 4 and have no religious education we have a separate program for them.

We welcome the children as they enter the 1st Grade and guide them through the 8th Grade.
The1st Graders learn about God’s love for them.  In the second year we prepare them
for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  In the 3rd year they receive their 1st Eucharist.  They
continue learning about God’s love and how they can follow Jesus’ footsteps.  We keep building
upon what they learn each year until they are prepared to enter fully into the Church by receiving
Confirmation in the 8th year of their studies, at which time we send them out to make disciples
of others.

Our New CCD Coordinator, effective August 1st, 2012 - Barbara Regan
After consulting with the CCD Regional Coordinator of the Staten Island Vicariate,
Sister Crucifix, CSJB and with strong recommendations from Sister Amelia, CSJB,
our out-going CCD Coordinator (who has resigned to become the new Superior of
St. John Villa Convent), Father Diaz is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Regan as
CCD Coordinator of St. Margaret Mary's Parish effective August 1,2012.
Barbara Regan is most qualified, having obtained a certification as a CCD catechist.
We are all grateful to Barbara for accepting the position of CCD coordinator.

Congratulations to Sister Amelia!  (July 1, 2012)
On behalf of the Parish of St. Margaret Mary, we extend a very warm congratulations to Sister Amelia Cueva, CSJ,
on her appointment as Superior of St. John Villa Convent.  Regrettably, her new responsibility will not allow her to
continue as coordinator of CCD here.  She has submitted her resignation effective July 31, 2012.
Sister Amelia will be very much missed here in St. Margaret Mary’s.  Her five years of
dedicated service to our children and to the parish as a whole will always be remembered.
We will never forget her energy, enthusiasm, and love for the children and the people of this
parish.  We wish her all the best in her new assignment.
As a reassuring note, Sister Amelia has promised to participate in our parish life in any way
her schedule will allow her. She hopes to continue coordinating the Lectio Divina every
Tuesday evening.  We hope she will continue to treat us to her super-delicious spring rolls!
