Town Hall Meetings; April 18th and May 6th, 2012
The Finance Committee held a Town Hall meeting and an update on April 18th and May 6th, 2012.  If you didn't attend,
you missed an outstanding opportunity to obtain an update on our parish's finances, current issues and current
(1)  The changes made to put the Church on a more solid financial footing,including updates on
the Convent, Presentation Hall, and the space under the Church (Bob Dennis, Joe Funk and Frank Sajdak.).
(2)  An overview of the Faith Formation Survey, with findings and recommendations (Jerry LePre);

The Crowning of Mary; May 6th, 2012
In honor of Mary, the Queen of May, there was a May Crowning of Mary at the May 6th, 2012 10am Mass.  
The First Communicants and other children offered flowers to the Blessed Mother.   We appreciate the
loving efforts of Sister Amelia in preparing our CCD children for First Communion and for organizing the

First Communion; Saturday May 5th, 2012
The Sacrament of First Communion for the children of our Parish took place on Saturday, May 5th, 2012
at a special 10:00am  Mass.  For several months, they had prepared with the help of their CCD
teachers led by Sister Amelia, Coordinator, for this ‘Big Day’ when they received Jesus in the Eucharist for
the first time. We commend the spiritual and moral support given them by their parents and family.

St. Margaret Mary’s Community Theater - Talent Show; Saturday May 5th
St. Margaret Mary’s Community Theatre held its first Talent Show on Saturday, May 5th, 2012.
What a talented group!
The winners were:

-  2nd Place: The Oasis Choir
-  3rd Place:  Ryan Lee
Congratulations to all the participants.  Everyone who was apart of the show are all winners.
A special thank you is extended to Erin Welborn who organized the event.

Spring Fling Potluck Party - What a party!!!!!
On Friday, April 27th, 2012 we celebrated like it was 1999!!!!
Over 150 party goers gathered at the OAC to mingle, eat, drink, laugh and dance the night away.  
It was a great time for all. The dance floor was never empty. As a matter of fact, it was packed for
the always fun "line dance".

A big thank you to all those that contributed their potluck trays of food and goodies.  The Party Committee
did another outstanding job!! With the overwheling success of last February's Mardi Gras Potluck Party and
this Spring Fling, they are on an unbelievable roll - THANK YOU!!

Congratulations to our Altar Servers!
It always warms our hearts when young people are recognized for their exemplary services and good deeds. In the case
of our Altar Servers here at St. Margaret Mary's, the recognition was given to them by the Assumption Council
Knights of Columbus last April 17th, 2012 at the Annual Altar Server Recognition Night that took
place at the Church of Saint Roch's hall in Port Richmond.

Korean Catholic Apostolate of Staten Island Bazaar; Saturday, April 15th
The Korean Catholic Apostolate of Staten Island held a Bazaar on April 15th, 2012 on the grounds of Presentation Hall
and in the OAC.  It was very well attended with the Korean community and the parishioners of St. Margaret Mary  
There was food, vendor tables, nail & haircuts, yard sales items, a Real Estate Consultant and Loan Consultant.

Day of Recollection - March 24th, 2012
On Saturday, March 24th, 2012 St. Margaret Mary's celebrated a Day of Recollection.  Twenty-Four parishioners
and religious took a Lenten "Journey" that was spiritually inspiring.

The Legion of Mary ACIES
On March 18th, 2012 the Legion of Mary ACIES was held at St. Margaret Mary.  We saw a big crowd of devotees
that included our Staten Island clergy and people from various parishes.  Among the clergymen were Msgr. Peter Finn
and Fr. Frank Lanzaderas of Blessed Sacrament, Fr. Joseph McClafferty of St. Christopher’s,
Fr. Pancrose Kalist of Queen of Peace, Fr. Terranova of Good Counsel, Deacons Pat Graham, Jim, Bill, Al, and yours
truly.  Congratulations to Chad and the St. Margaret Mary Praesidium for coordinating this beautiful Marian event!

Mardi Gras Potluck Party
What a Night!  Our parish's Potluck Mardi Gras Party of February 18th, 2012 was a huge success!
Around 200 people jammed the OAC and enjoyed the overflowing tables of food, DJ dancing, and wholesome
People are already asking about the next one!  Well, guess what?  A
Spring Fling is scheduled for April 27th, 2012.

We would like to thank all of those who brought food, and especially Frank Saulle and his amazing committee.

Breakfast With Santa
On Sunday, December 18th, 2011 Santa flew down from the
North Pole and joined us for breakfast with the children and the
young at heart at the Olympia Activity Center (OAC).  There were
pancakes, bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, coffee and
beverages.  A photo with Santa was included.
50/50 and Raffle Tickets were also available!

Community Singing and Christmas (Peace) Tree Lighting
Our Community Singing and Christmas (Peace) Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 17th, 2011
(after the 5:00pm Mass) was lots of fun.  Many of our parishioners braved the cooler
temperature and joined in the singing. They were rewarded with
a stunning Peace Tree lighting and hot chocolate in the
Olympia Activity Center (OAC).

9/11 Memorial
On Sunday, September 18th, 2011 we celebrated a Mass of Remembrance and the dedication of our 9/11 memorial
monument.  Hundreds of family members, relatives, parishioners and friends attended these moving events.

The black granite memorial was installed in the front yard of the rectory. This stone commemorates the loss of the
seven neighborhood residents who died and are forever remembered in our prays and in our hearts:
- Capt. Marty Egan,
- Lt. Harvey Harrell,
- Lt. Stephen Harrell,
- Vincent Laieta,
- Lt. Phil Petti,
- Firefighter Allan Tarasiewicz, and
- Patrick Woods.
Family of the fallen, as well as firefighters from Ladder Company 81,
Engine Company 161, and Rescue 5. and members of Staten Island
Pipe and Drums attended.  Father Diaz blessed the memorial.  

We thank Gerri and Bill Owens and their committee for spearheading
the fund raising drive for the memorial, soliciting contributions from
current and former community residents, businesses, and
other Islanders.
